My Trading Journey: From Turbulence to Freedom

Hi, I’m Joyce Tan.

Today, I’m a full-time trader living with freedom in time and location, creating content in my free hours, and teaching others like you how to achieve the same. But this didn’t happen overnight. My journey is filled with turbulence, clarity, trial, and personal evolution. Here’s how it unfolded.

2016: Flying High – The Spark of Curiosity

I started dabbling with trading in 2016 while flying as a cabin crew for Singapore Airlines. Being from a small country like Singapore, I was always eager to see the world. Airline life made that possible—seven destinations a month, luxurious hotels, stunning gyms, and vibrant city centers.

But after two years and 300+ flights, the lifestyle began to take a toll. I gained weight, my health faltered, and my memories of foreign countries were reduced to supermarket aisles. Australia and the US became my favorites—not for their landmarks, but for their snacks.

That realization led me to a new pursuit: trading. A path to time and location freedom, financial scalability, and deep purpose.

2018-2020: Grounded & Growing

I left the airline and joined a 9-5 sales role at Qoo10. I needed structure and time to recover physically and mentally. On weekends and nights, I devoured trading content, trying to prove that one could make a living through charts.

One of my best friends was a full-time trader, and her presence kept my belief alive. We used different strategies but shared the same mindset: success in trading has many paths.

Then came my first real investment—a $3,900 weekend seminar after watching Gary Vee and Grant Cardone speak. The course itself? A flop. But it was the price I had to pay to get serious. While I don’t use anything from it today, it introduced me to Fibonacci, which spiraled into an obsession with sacred geometry and quantum physics. That, in turn, led to a deeper spiritual journey.

2020: Building Systems & Solitude During Lockdown

I discovered No Nonsense Forex and started coding MT4 algorithms using multiple indicators. I tested thousands of them, tweaking endlessly, but results stayed inconsistent.

Then COVID hit. Working from home was a gift. No more office distractions or time lost commuting. I got to spend time with family and dive deeper into self-education. The realization hit: I needed a career that merged finance and trading.

2021: Entering Fintech and Facing the Fire

Through what felt like divine timing, I landed a role at a fintech firm that taught trading. They used Fibonacci too (full circle!). I was quickly trained to host live webinars and create daily trade signals. Surrounded by seasoned professionals, I absorbed market language and built strong trade journaling habits.

The pressure was high. It was uncomfortable. But it sharpened me.

Yet after a year, I still lacked true consistency. That’s when I found ICT (Inner Circle Trader). His approach changed everything—especially the importance of timing in the markets.

2022: Going Deep with ICT and Trading Full Time

Wanting more time to study, I left the fintech firm and became a self-employed Financial Advisor. It gave me the flexibility I needed and still paid the bills.

I spent most days at The Great Room, a stunning co-working space in Singapore, surrounded by driven professionals. I clocked in full 8-hour study days, immersed in ICT's content—taking extensive notes, backtesting, and trading funded and demo accounts.

Coffee became a tool, not a treat. But the intensity paid off. I didn’t want shortcuts. I wanted mastery.

2023: Full-Time Trading and Sharing My Path

After nearly two years advising clients on long-term investments, I saw the value in something even more powerful: changing income in 1-3 years through trading.

I left my Financial Advisor role and became a full-time trader. Now I could share openly on Instagram, YouTube, and Telegram, and guide people honestly without compliance limitations.

2025: The Now

As of May 2025, I’m still a full-time trader documenting my trades and travels online. I’ve lived in different countries for weeks to months, all while trading. That’s freedom to me.
